Prior to joining CarTrawler’s Business Development Team, James Kinch worked in Partner Management handling the relationship between CarTrawler and its business partners. James’ role involved travelling the world to meet partners face-to-face in order to tackle any queries or concerns they had. He actively managed many key relationships for CarTrawler, “within my portfolio I’d have airlines, travel management companies, online travel agencies and some exclusive car companies. The main area I was responsible for was insuring the renewal of contracts, maintaining relationships and trying to get more visibility on their page, while also striving to optimise the account,” said James.
The Partner Management Team works closely with all of CarTrawler’s partners to maintain relationships, as well as dealing with every department across the company in order to convey and oversee their partners’ requests. “The team is responsible for making sure the partner is making money by looking at the average booking value (ABV). They also spend a lot of time looking over reports and trying to get action points from the data they have,” said James. The Partner Management Team work with the top airlines and OTAs in the world to expand their knowledge of the industry, while also getting to travel to some interesting destinations. According to James, “It’s a really varied job; you will travel a lot to meet your partners.”
James studied law in Dublin Institute of Technology and once he completed his degree he moved to Hong Kong to join Flight Centre, where he worked in business development for a year before coming back to Ireland in order to manage a department at Usit. Following this, he moved on to Travelport, “I worked for their global supplier support team, so I looked after relationships with numerous hotel chains, such as the four seasons,” he said. After a year working with the Partner Management Team James was promoted to the Business Development Team where he still travels the world, only this time it’s to meet potential new partners.
About the job
“Working with the Partner Management team was really varied, so one week I could be in the office and the next I could be visiting a partner in Croatia, which was great. It’s really multicultural and diverse here at CarTrawler, which helps you to prepare for dealing with partners from different countries. When working with partners in certain nations your interactions can be quite formal, however some, once you get to know them, can be more relaxed. I enjoy working with people and that is still is a big part of my role with the Business development Team, which I love. I like the company also, it’s full of nice people who are very welcoming and easy to work with.”
